Figure 1 (top image). These are the morning glories that have decided to wrap themselves around every pole, every trunk, even the ongoing garden sculpture creation that I started last year. As you can see, or can’t see, the frame of the sculpture is hidden.
This is the September/October, 2016 edition of the Shift in Consciousness Ezine. It’s been a hot summer. Here in the City of Brotherly Love, August brought us more than a week of scorching temperatures, 90 degrees plus, with heat indexes of up to 101 degrees. The humidity has been stifling. With summer not being my favorite season, except, of course, for the opportunity it offers for gardening, I’m relieved to see it all come to an end. And hopefully cooler temperatures will bring respite and clarity to what has been an emotionally charged summer in the U.S. It is this emotional climate of fear and anger that is my focus in “Above the Battleground,” a title taken from a chapter in A Course in Miracles.
The Guest Blog Spot for this edition features Charles Eisenstein’s video “A New Story of the People,” both a clarion call and admonition. In Science & the Sacred is a brief essay, “Shifting the Climate Debate Onto Sacred Ground,” (July, 2015) by mystic and spiritual activist, Llewellyn Vaughn-Lee; and in the same section, a link to another article that I find intriguing about a group of nuns in California who, as their way of service, grow medicinal marijuana. I wonder what the Pope has to say about that.
In Food & Art are links to two food blogs; one is culinary artist Bryant Terry who was the Chef-in-Residence at MoAD in San Francisco in 2015. Terry is also the author of Vegan Soul Kitchen: Fresh, Healthy and Creative African American Cuisine and Afro-Vegan. The second link is Kate Webster, an advocate of buying locally and eating seasonally. Depending of course on your personal preferences, and location, she has some recipes for every season. In Habitation and Living is an article by Rolf Dobelli that appeared in theguardian in April, 2013, “News is bad for you-and giving up reading it will make you happier.” That’s it, and remember to check out the real-time bio’s.
May your September and October bring you avalanches of the best of every good thing. ~ Akilah
