My first encounter with the term “new earth” was Eckhart Tolle’s New Earth: Awakening to Your Life’s Purpose. I encountered it again when A Course of Love, or ACOL, came into my life. Aside from A Course in Miracles, ACOL is one of those books that has most profoundly influenced my perspective and guided me to discover my own life’s purpose: advocating for a new earth consciousness. ACOL does not provide a blueprint for the new earth; it doesn’t say what it will be, except to point out that it is new. There are no models in the old world on which to base the new one.
The current-old belief system (based in separation) is comprised of a staggering number of beliefs that guide life on this planet. I know that I have written extensively about how the belief in separation impacts our lives. But I think a little review is necessary to take us into the way of the creation of the new earth. It will assist us in seeing how the new is a fundamental, unprecedented break from the old.
Let’s look at today’s mainstream health care system. As it currently stands, the dominant belief is that our health is controlled by forces that exist outside of us, forces that we have no control over: genes, family history, race, and gender. We have developed a system run by medical experts who we turn to when we find ourselves in a state of discomfort. We have developed a pharmaceutical industry to provide medicines to address sickness and disease. We have developed institutions to train doctors and nurses and a myriad of other medical professionals whose sole function is to deal with sickness. We have an organization, The World Health Organization, whose concern is the global community’s health.
When it comes to addressing disease and sickness, some parts of the world fare better than others. Africa, the continent with the largest population with HIV and AIDS, does not have an adequate health care system to address this epidemic; as a result, political and economic entities become involved and the true care and treatment of the sick is either lost or delayed, with tragic results. Most African countries do not have the money to address HIV and AIDS or even malaria. As it stands, every 3 seconds a death occurs from a preventable or curable disease.
Control and access to health care and its funding are issues in many countries, and there have been efforts to reform and tweak health cares systems. Sometimes these reforms are legislative in nature, such as the recent “fixes” made to ensure that everyone has access to health care in the US. In other countries, such as Canada and most of Europe, health care is funded by citizens who make contributions from their incomes to ensure that everyone can see a health care provider. In contrast, in Africa, there is virtually no funding and therefore the health care systems are horribly inadequate. Countries there often have to rely on donations of medical personnel and medicine.
Here is the point: When we hear politicians and well-meaning philanthropists talking about making the world a better place by ensuring that everyone has access to health care and the medicines that will cure them, and about strategies to ensure that developing nations can educate doctors, nurses, and have hospitals to treat the sick and dying, we are not talking about the creation of the new. We are talking about maintaining and making more tolerable the conditions created from a false belief.
Only a consciousness attempting to function in separation believes in sickness: sickness is a belief; it is a belief from a past when we did not know that the Universe is intelligent and that we are expressions of it. We, together with the energy from the Source, that we call the Universe, and from our thoughts and emotions, create physical reality. The Universe operates through us, as us. This is another way of saying that the new earth cannot be created with the same beliefs that created sickness and disease. The fact of our lives is that we exist in a relationship with the Universe, call it God, Goddess or Charlene. It is who we are, each and every one of us, unique expressions of it. What the creation of the new earth requires, first, is the restoration of our true consciousness: the moment-to-moment awareness that we exist in unity and relationship. And of course, we cannot know that unless we become aware of the relationship between our thoughts and emotions and what transpires in our lives.
What those who have become aware of this relationship have discovered is the power that will create the new earth. People are discovering that a co-creative relationship with the Higher Self, who operates as the creative life force in all life, brings joy, well-being and the expansion of all that life is as Its highest concern. The discovery of the power of co-creation, what I am referring to as creating in unity and relationship, is the way that people all over the world are creating their lives anew. When we shift our beliefs, we shift our physical experience. When we shift our physical experience, we shift how life is lived on this planet.
We are birthing the new earth now.
